We support the Voice

Out For Australia: We support the Voice

Out For Australia is proud to support the ‘Yes’ campaign for the upcoming referendum on the Voice. We support the Voice because we believe that First Nations peoples should have a say in policies and laws that affect them.

This is because the Voice will:

  • assist in breaking down barriers for First Nations people

  • ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are heard and considered by government

  • empower the next generation of First Nations Australians.

We encourage all our supporters and community to vote ‘YES’ in the upcoming referendum.

We exist for our community

Out For Australia exists to support our LGBTQIA+ community to thrive at work. First Nations people are a key part of the LGBTQIA+ community. We can only fulfil our purpose by ensuring all LGBTQIA+ people can thrive in Australia.

We join other rainbow NFP organisations in standing in solidarity with First Nations people. The Voice to Parliament is the vision of First Nations people from across Australia and is one the majority of First Nations people support.

Like with any activity relating to our community, we encourage everyone to seek out, listen to and understand (as best you can) the diverse thoughts, feelings, ideas, and perspectives that exist across First Nations people and communities.

We are active allies

As part of the LGBTQIA+ community, we know what it is like to have the public consider and vote on our rights. The negative messaging about our community during the marriage equality postal survey is shown to have caused higher levels of psychological distress for LGBTQIA+ people. We are currently seeing negative messaging, misinformation and disinformation regarding the Voice and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

We ask our community to be active allies to the First Nations community by:

  • seeking out different perspectives from trustworthy sources

  • having meaningful conversations with your friends, family and peers

  • checking in with and supporting First Nations people.

 Your vote counts

This Referendum will only pass if a majority of Australians in a majority of States vote ‘yes’. This has only happened 8 times in Australia’s history. Every vote will count. This is a once in a generation opportunity to unite our nation and walk together into a better future.
